In early October 2026, HMI Logistics successfully completed an air freight project involving approximately 70 tonnes of electronic equipment, transported from Kunming (KMG), China, to Kolkata (CCU), India, on direct IndiGo (6E) flights.
The cargo was arranged across four consignments to accommodate the overall shipment volume and transportation requirements.
Taking place around China's National Day holiday, the project required more than securing sufficient airline capacity. Domestic cargo collection, trucking schedules, airport cargo acceptance, and flight arrangements all needed to be coordinated to support the shipment.
Coordinating Direct Air Freight Capacity for 70 Tonnes of Cargo
The shipment was handled for a long-standing customer of HMI Logistics.
For this project, the customer required direct flights, dependable cargo capacity, and prompt shipment arrangements. With approximately 70 tonnes to transport, securing sufficient space across the required departures was a key consideration.
Unlike smaller routine shipments, large-volume air freight requires coordination of available flight capacity, cargo allocation, and delivery schedules. These factors become particularly important when direct services are required.
As a key cargo agent for IndiGo (6E), HMI Logistics maintains established airline relationships and has experience coordinating substantial cargo capacity for shipments from China to India.
This was one of the main reasons the customer entrusted the project to HMI Logistics.
Working with IndiGo, our team coordinated capacity on the direct KMG–CCU route and developed a shipment plan based on the overall volume and the customer's cargo readiness schedule.
Rather than treating each consignment as an isolated booking, the arrangements considered the total cargo volume and the timing of individual deliveries, helping align available airline capacity with the customer's shipment requirements.
Managing Domestic Transportation During China's National Day Holiday
Another important aspect of the project was coordinating domestic transportation during the National Day holiday period.
Increased road traffic during major public holidays in China can introduce uncertainty into trucking schedules. For international air freight, delays in reaching the departure airport may reduce the time available for cargo acceptance, security screening, and subsequent flight handling.
To address this, HMI Logistics worked closely with the customer to confirm cargo readiness and delivery schedules in advance.
Based on the agreed cargo handover arrangements, our team coordinated airline space allocation while organizing domestic pickup and trucking operations.
Once the cargo handover times were confirmed, trucks were dispatched promptly to reduce potential disruption from holiday road congestion and allow sufficient time for airport cargo acceptance.
HMI Logistics coordinated the domestic pickup, inland transportation, and delivery to the departure airport, alongside the international air freight arrangements.
This approach helped connect the customer's actual cargo availability with airline schedules, rather than handling ground transportation and flight bookings as separate activities.
Project Completed: Approximately 70 Tonnes Transported on Direct 6E Flights
Following the coordination of airline capacity and domestic transportation, the approximately 70-tonne shipment was completed using direct IndiGo (6E) flights from Kunming (KMG) to Kolkata (CCU).
The project demonstrated the practical importance of combining access to large-volume airline capacity with effective shipment planning.
Airline relationships provide the foundation for securing cargo space, while coordination of pickup schedules, airport delivery, and flight arrangements helps translate that capacity into an executable transportation plan.
For HMI Logistics, this shipment was another opportunity to put its established IndiGo air freight resources and operational experience into practice.
